From a Delaware Park release

The track record for one mile on the main track, a record which stood for 54 years, fell at Delaware Park Saturday.

Lawrence Roman’s Stormin Monarcho covered the distance in 1:34.85 in the seventh race with Alex Cintron aboard.

The previous record was 1:35.20 set by Ashlar in 1960.

Stormin Monarcho is a 4-year-old gelded son of Monarchos out of the winless Storm Cat mare Her Own Terms and is trained by David Jacobson.  He defeated eight rivals in the $40,000 allowance and returned $15.00 as fourth choice.   It was the first career outing at Delaware Park for the Kentucky-bred with a lifetime record of five wins from 20 starts with earnings of $192,568.  He defeated favored Managed Account, who ran second, by 11 1/4 lengths.
