Luna Belle is 9-2 on the morning line for the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes Friday at Pimlico Race Course. She arrives at Pimlico on a five-race win streak, with all five wins coming in stakes company.

What’s it like to have the local hopeful on a major heater? We caught up with her trainer Hamilton Smith and co-owner (and co-breeder) Deborah Greene to learn more.

Luna Belle was bred in Maryland by Greene, her late father Fred, and Smith. She’s is a daughter of top local stallion Great Notion. During the year she has won stakes ranging from six furlongs to 1 1/16 miles, all against local competition. She’ll try her longest distance and toughest competiton here. Regular pilot Denis Araujo will ride.
