YESTERDAY’S NEWS: Hot Seat sizzles in allowance win
The next Midlantic-bred star may be a three-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song named Hot Seat.
The Maryland-bred was the easiest kind of winner yesterday (at 1-5 odds) in a $76,000 allowance at Parx Racing and now owns two wins — by a combined total of nearly 20 lengths — from two starts.
Under jockey Paco Lopez, Hot Seat, trained by Jason Servis for Gary and Mary West, pressed the pace of 25-1 Late Breaking News, took control passing the quarter pole, and went on to win by seven lengths in seven lengths in 1:41.88 for one mile 70 yards on a fast main track. Late Breaking News held second, and Street Heat was third. For comparison purposes, a second-level allowance contested two races later took 1:42.77 to navigate the same distance.
Hot Seat, out of the Mr. Greeley mare Grecian Wings, was bred by Larry Johnson and was purchased by the Wests for $260,000 at the 2014 Keeneland September yearling sale.

- Tracks in action: Delaware Park, Charles Town, Penn National
- It’s last call for some two-year-olds looking to break their maidens at Delaware Park, as the track has just a couple of days of live racing to go in its 2016 season. Today’s seventh race is a $40,000 maiden claimer for juveniles going 1 mile 70 yards on the main track. Larry Jones trainee Zarski (9-5) is favored on the stretch-out to a route distance following two middling tries against maiden special company. He’ll have to contend with Tony Dutrow trainee The X Man (5-2), a Yes It’s True colt also stretching out for the first time following three so-so tries against better. Other contenders include Lead Investor (10-1), second last out in maiden special weight company at Penn National, and Chuck Lawrence trainee What Gives (12-1), who veered and lost his rider early in his debut and whose rider lost his irons at the start of his follow-up.
- Two of broodmare Candy One’s offspring scored this past Saturday at Charles Town on West Virginia Breeders Classics night. Another of her offspring, Coach Casey (5-2), is at it tonight in an allowance at that track. Coach Casey, a sophomore Charitable Man gelding bred, owned, and trained by James W. Casey, will have Antonio Lopez up; Coach Casey has a single win from nine career starts, though he has been second or third five other times. Ollie Figgins trainee Blazin Luck (2-1) is favored.
