YESTERDAY’S NEWS: Charlesbrecknridge perfect at Delaware Park
Monday afternoon thoroughbred racing fans were reminded that the phrase “horses for courses” is valid among the elite and those climbing the class ladder when Charlesbrecknridge rallied from just off the pace to win a six-furlong, $36,000 allowance/optional claiming race by two lengths as the solid 8-5 favorite.
A four-year-old Mutadda gelding out of the Officer mare Generalcbandsallie, Charlesbrecknridge stalked early leaders Eight Da Hardway and Afleet Willy down the backside and through the far turn through honest fractions of 21.96 and 44.83 seconds and then overhauled that pair with little trouble en route to a two-length score in 1:10.22 for trainer Jamie Ness and owners Mark Hoffman and Jagger Inc.
Charlesbrecknridge has now won three of five starts this year and earned just over $65,000, and he sports a 3-5-1 slate and nearly $95,000 banked from 14 career outings.
But after his latest tally on Monday afternoon, Charlesbreckenridge is now 3-for-3 at Delaware Park, having earned his diploma there against maiden special weight foes on May 25 in 1:11.47 in his 10th try. Then after an outing at Pimlico, he returned to Delaware to win a $35,000/40,000 claiming event on July 2 in 1:11.29. After a fifth-place effort at Parx in his next start, Charlesbreckenridge returned to Delaware Park on Monday to notch his most impressive score to date and keep his perfect record intact over that strip.
