YESTERDAY’S NEWS: FIVE STRAIGHT FOR T REX EXPRESS

The sight of T Rex Express in the winner’s circle is one that’s become depressingly familiar to her Charles Town rivals.

The three-year-old West Virginia-bred Warrior’s Reward filly posted her fifth consecutive victory last night and ran her overall record to six wins from nine career starts.  She has earned nearly $94,000.

Last night, in a $24,000 allowance contest, T Rex Express and regular pilot Arnaldo Bocachica grabbed the early lead and never looked back, winning the 6 1/2 furlong event by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:19.70.  Sent off at 3-10, she paid just $2.60 to win.  Click and Roll, a 15-1 outsider, finished second, nearly four lengths clear of Dandy Candy in third.

T Rex Express, out of the Maria’s Mon mare Chocolate Mon, was bred in West Virginia by Mr. and Mrs. John Link.  Trainer Jeff Runco purchased her as a yearling out of the Keeneland January mixed sale for $20,000, and she’s owned by David M. Raim.

LOOK AHEAD: TODAY’S RACING

  • Tracks in action today: Monmouth Park, Laurel Park, Penn National, Charles Town.
  • Check out The GQ Approach for full-card Laurel Park handicapping.
  • Twizzle (2-1), impressive winner in his last two, ships down from Monmouth Park for trainer Jorge Navarro to contest race three at Laurel Park, a salty, $45,000 allowance test sprinting on the lawn.  Horacio Karamanos is signed up.  Among his rivals is Easy River (5-1), a three-year-old Maryland-bred Ham Smith trainee whose two turf sprints have produced a win, in maiden special weight company, and a second place finish in Monmouth Park’s Select Stakes last out, in June.  Jevian Toledo will ride.
  • Ten freshman fillies (nine betting interests) will tangle in Charles Town’s lid-lifter this evening, a $23,000 maiden special weight contest in which seven of the contestants are making their debuts. The linemaker has installed the 2-entry, Mountaineer shippers trained by Alejandro Gomez, as the 5-2 favorites.  The plain 2, Penelopes Best, has been working fast for her debut, while La Versalles has finished fourth in both of her career starts.  Another debut runner, Kittycat Heir (3-1) for trainer Jeff Runco, is the second choice; and Passionate Talk (7-2), second on debut for trainer Kenneth Huffman, is third.
