YESTERDAY’S NEWS: DOUBLE THE PLEASURE
Two Charles Town trainers doubled up last night, taking the first two spots in their respective races.
In race three, a maiden special weight for three-year-olds and up going 4 1/2 furlongs, Joan Reynolds’ uncoupled entry of Williamsburg and Two for the Money occupied the top two spots. Williamsburg, a Too Much Bling colt owned by Tigertail Ranch and ridden by J.D. Acosta, led throughout to post a 1 1/4 length victory in 52.79 seconds. Two for the Money, owned by Cobble Stone Stables LLC, outfought Curves that Kick for the place position.
Four races later, in a first-level allowance for fillies and mares going 1 1/16 miles, trainer Jeff Runco reprised Reynolds’ feat when his March Wind-Moonlight Run entry ran one-two. March Wind, a Real Estate filly owned by Debbie Rhodes and ridden by Arnaldo Bocachica, stalked the early pace of Cinco before taking over at the three-eighths pole and going on to win by 8 1/2 lengths in 1:48.22. Moonlight Run, always a couple lengths behind her stable mate, took second midway on the turn but was no match for the winner. She was four lengths clear of Pinkie Pie in third.
ALSO…
- Jockey Horacio Karamanos won three yesterday at Laurel Park, including turf scores with maiden-no-more Little Stella and with Maryland Mystique. He also took the eighth, an allowance for three-year-olds when Tiz Long Gone, trained by Linda Rice, survived a long duel with Good Save to win by a head. Running time for the dirt mile was 1:38.86.
- Wembley had found the going at Aqueduct a little steep, going winless in her first five tries there. But the Kiaran McLaughlin trainee sure likes Laurel, and she made a big worst-to-first move yesterday and went on to win a maiden special weight event by over six lengths as the 6-5 favorite. Jevian Toledo did the riding honors; running time for the one-mile distance was a solid 1:39.18 for the sophomore daughter of Bernardini.
