Lightening Larry prevails in Alapocas Run

Lea Farms’ Lightening Larry won the $100,150 Alapocas Run Stakes in dominant fashion at Delaware Park today.

With Paco Lopez aboard, the 4-year-old son of Uncaptured won by 1 1/2-lengths and returned $3.20 as the favorite in the field of six.   Sir Wellington, with Kevin Gomez, was 2 3/4 lengths in front of Chief Ron, with John Hiraldo, in third.

Lightening Larry covered the six furlongs in 1:10.13 over a fast-main track.

The Florida-bred trained by Jorge Delgado raised his career record to seven wins from 17 starts with $517,080.

“He is a really nice horse,” said winning rider Paco Lopez.  “He broke really well today and we got into good position.  When I asked him at the eighth-pole, he responded and finished strong.”
