2yo allowances top closing weekend at Delaware Park

A pair of allowance races for two-year-olds highlight closing weekend at Delaware Park, with a $46,000 never-won-three allowance contest the closing day feature.

Delaware will present eight-race cards on both Friday and Saturday with a special 12:15 first post.

The Andy Simoff-trained Howgreatisnate highlights the Saturday seventh race allowance, a six-furlong sprint with an optional $75,000 claiming tag.

Howgreatisnate is undefeated in two career starts. Last out he turned back bids from Lost Weekend and Midnight Trouble to prevail as the even-money favorite in the $100,000 First State Dash for Delaware certified two-year-olds.

By Speightster, Howgreatisnate is the 9-5 morning line favorite and will have J. D. Acosta once again in the irons.

Howgreatisnate’s stiffest challenge may come from Monmouth Park shipper Wild Mule. The New Jersey-bred Army Mule colt is likewise 2-for-2 after a nose victory last out in an allowance/optional claimer at Monmouth Park.

Wild Mule is 5-2 on the morning line and will have Angel Rodriguez in the irons for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Friday’s card features two allowances, including an allowance/optional claimer for two-year-olds that have never won two races going one mile on the main track.

The even-money favorite is Didinger. The Bolt d’Oro colt, a $230,000 yearling purchase by Cash Is King LLC and LC Racing LLC, graduated last out after having finished second or third in three previous outings, including a third in August at Saratoga.

Ruben Silvera is scheduled to ride for trainer Butch Reid. The race is the sixth of eight on the card.
