Grade 3 Withers Stakes winner Risk Taking disappointed when seventh as the favorite in the Wood Memorial, won by 72-1 longshot Bourbonic. His connections bypassed the Peter Pan for this spot.

Trainer Chad Brown has one prior Preakness victory, with Cloud Computing in 2017. Jockey Jose Ortiz is winless in three Preakness tries.

GQ SAYS

Failed miserably as the post time favorite in latest effort when he had a clean trip in mid-pack though very wide entering the stretch but simply did not fire as expected. The foes he beat two races back when winning the G3 Withers Stakes have not shown much since unless you want to count two wins in optional claiming races. Scratched out of last Saturday’s Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont when installed as the morning line favorite, opting for the bigger purse here.  Baltimore native Seth Klarman is the proprietor of Klaravich Stables and hopes lightning strikes again at Old Hilltop as he co-owned 2017 Preakness winner Cloud Computing.
