Parx Racing has a 10-race card on tap for this afternoon. Post time for the opener is 12:25 p.m., and we’ve got Parx picks.

How’d we do last time at Parx?

RACE NUMBERCONTENDERSCOMMENTS
Race 36-3-4-1That was a tough defeat first time out for #6 Vino Y Queso (9-5). The Fast Anna filly dueled for the lead while inside, turned back her speed rival… but then tired late and ended up third. No reason she can’t take a step forward today, and if she does, she’s the likely winner… This is an interesting group of horses, and one semi-unexpected entrant is the Todd Beattie-trained #3 Stand by You (9-2). A $115,000 Munnings filly, she’s based at PEN with a trainer who doesn’t send many maidens to Parx. But when he does, they generally run well: he’s 3-for-6 with a $6 ROI. This one is the second foal out of a decent allowance runner by top sire Medaglia d’Oro… #4 Dr B (3-1) has been training nicely at Parx for conditioner Butch Reid, and two of her four sibs to race won at first asking. But Reid is only 3-for-39 with two-year-olds making their debuts in special weight company… Two for the price of one with the entry of #1 Onthisharvestmoon and #1 Cinque Amore (5-1). The former is by top sire Malibu Moon, and the latter was a $65,000 auction purchase…
Race 711-3-5-1More two-year-old maidens on tap here, these Pennsylvania-breds… Really nice effort on debut by #11 Amaterasu (6-1), who rallied after bumping at the start to be a clear second behind a 3-5 fave. That $40k maiden claimer at LRL should stack up nicely against this state-bred group — the winner was a $210k Into Mischief filly — and with a cleaner trip, this one could be tough (though don’t expect 6-1)… We’ll take a flyer at long odds on #3 Tipsy Chatter (20-1). The Elizabeth Merryman homebred is a half to Caravel, a stakes winner who’s 4-for-5 in her career… The time wasn’t much to write home about, but #5 Everymothersprayer (5-2) showed good early speed and stuck with it to the end. She’s been working well since and gets Lasix on for a trainer, John Servis, who does well with horses making their second career starts in special weight company (15-for-68)… #1 Confirmed Genius (7-2) gave an improved effort last out against similar and can improve today…
