Mark Grier’s Eons notched a victory in the $50,000 Stanton Stakes at Delaware Park today. The Stanton is the local prep for the $200,000 Grade III Kent Stakes to be run on July 6th.

With Trevor McCarthy aboard, the son of Giant’s Causeway won by a half-length and returned $3.80 as the favorite in the field of four. Credit Swap, with Nik Juarez, finished second, but was disqualified and placed third for interfering with Five Star General with Daniel Centeno. Five Star General was placed second. Eons covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:43.94 over a firm turf course.

The Kentucky-bred conditioned by Arnaud Delacour raised his career record to three wins from five starts with earnings of $108,240. On April 11, he broke his maiden going a mile and a sixteenth on the Keeneland turf course and on May 17, he won a mile and a sixteenth turf allowance at Pimlico.

“He ran great,” said winning trainer Arnaud Delacour. “I was very happy with his race. He set up things very nicely from behind. He was nice and relaxed and he came with his usual run. He has had three straight good efforts going a mile and a sixteenth, but we think he can go much longer than that. He has big long stride and big strong gallop out, so we are delighted. We will look at the Kent Stakes for him assuming he comes back good.”
