Delaware Park has an eight-race card on Thursday, October 4. Post time for the card is 1:15 p.m. Some horses to watch:

Race 2 – Maiden special weight

  • Fillies and mares three and up will go 1 mile 70 yards on the turf.
  • #1 Somthingscandalous (15-1) gave an improved accounting of herself last out in her first try on the turf, although it wasn’t much to write home about. Sent off at 76-1 in just the second start of her career, she passed a couple in the lane in the 5 1/2 furlong sprint, rallying into sixth. That was an improvement on her debut, which was in an off-the-turf event. She stretches out to a route distance here, which her breeding says should be a plus. She’s by Hightail, and while he’s had only two winners to date, their average winning distance has been more than a mile. On the female side of the family, she’s out of the winning Tapit mare Steal the Dance, and as a broodmare sire, Tapit, too, has been a distance influence. Trainer Mike Dini, who also conditions the best of Hightail’s offspring, Dynatail, will leg up solid journeyman Daniel Centeno.
  • Selections: 1-2-8-5

Race 8 – Maiden claiming

  • Two-year-old fillies will go 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf at the $25,000 claiming level.
  • Trainer Tim Ritchey has won with four of his 12 debut runners in recent years, including three of four to start out in claiming company. Such is the case with #5 Suiko (10-1). The English Channel filly is out of the Glitterman mare Colonial Glitter and is a half-sis to four winners, one of them a stakes winner. She’s been training steadily for the last two months for this test, including a couple of five-furlong moves and a six-furlong breeze. She’s Delaware-certified, so Ritchey is able to waive the claiming tag here, and he’ll leg up Jose Angel Garcia.
  • Selections: 5-9-12-3
