Penny Chenery, owner of Secretariat, passes away at 95

Penny Chenery, who rose to racing fame when campaigning the great Secretariat to the 1973 Triple Crown — the first triple in 25 years — and when on to become something of a grande dame of the sport, passed away in September following complications from a stroke.

Navarro out – but Chublicious in – for Saturday’s De Francis Dash

The 2017 De Francis Dash encountered controversy even before it was run, as Jorge Navarro, trainer of Chublicious, was caught on tape saying some things he likely wishes he could have back. Chublicious was eventually allowed to run, and run he did, winning the six-furlong test in an upset.

Tequilita powers to Charles Town Oaks triumph

Tequilita enjoyed a productive 2017 campaign winning twice and earning $414,640 on the track. One of those scores came in the Grade 3 Charles Town Oaks, in a win that owner Dorothy Alexander Matz – wife of trainer Michael Matz — described as “like a homecoming for me.” Ted Black told the tale.
