Staff report

While plenty of people were excited about Tapwrit’s victory in last Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, it’s probably fair to say that Randy and John Funkhouser were among them.

When Tapwrit surged clear to take the final jewel in the Triple Crown by two lengths over Irish War Cry, it marked the third time in four years that the winner of the 1 1/2-mile test was sired by Tapit, with Tapwrit joining Creator (2016) and Tonalist (2014) on that list.

And, in further cementing Tapit’s status as one of the world’s great sires, it should also give a boost to a new sire standing at the Funkhousers’ O’Sullivan Farms.

Aldrin, a three-quarter brother to Tapit, will stand his first season at O’Sullivan Farms, West Virginia’s oldest thoroughbred breeding farm, in Charles Town, WV, in 2018. Beyond siring three of the last four Belmont winners, Tapit has been America’s leading sire for the last three years and stands for $300,000.

Aldrin, currently five years old, is a winning son of Malibu Moon out of the stakes winner Tap Your Heels, by Unbridled. He was the most expensive of Tap Your Heels’s offspring to go through the auction ring, topping the 2014 Keeneland April Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training at $1,000,000 after posting an eighth-mile in 9.80 seconds.

Aldrin’s first four dams have all produced extremely influential sires: Foggy Note (dam of Relaunch), Moon Glitter (dam of Glitterman), Ruby Slippers (dam of champion Rubiano), and Tap Your Heels (dam of Tapit). Aldrin is Tapit’s only brother to stand at stud.

Limited lifetime breeding rights for Aldrin are available now. More information, including contact information, is available here.
