WinStar Farm, Al Shaqab Racing, and China Horse Club International’s Master Plan notched a 1 ¼-length victory in the $50,000 Stanton Stakes at Delaware Park today.
With Carol Cedeno aboard, the 3-year-old son of Twirling Candy covered the about a mile and a sixteenth over a firm turf in 1:47.63 and returned $4.20 as the favorite in the field of six.
Adonis Creed, with Eric Cancel, finished second. It was another 1 1/4-lengths further back to Super Dude, with Michael Luzzi, in third.
Master Plan has a record of two wins and a third from four starts in 2017. In his most recent, the Kentucky-bred trained by Todd Pletcher finished fifth in the Grade III Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park on May 13. On March 25, he finished third in the Group I UAE Derby at Meydan. He has a career record of three wins, a second and a third from seven starts with earnings of $333,490.
“He was the best horse in the race,” said winning rider Carol Cedeno. “I just waited and when I asked him, he gave me everything.”
