There are a pair of stakes on tap at Delaware Park this afternoon: the $50,000 Stanton, going 1 1/16 miles on the turf for three-year-olds, and the $100,000 Obeah, a 1 1/8 mile test on the main track for fillies and mares three and up.
Elsewhere, we’ve already discussed:
- Zinger, a half-brother to I’m a Chatterbox, who’s in the Stanton;
- Martini Glass, the formful Keith Nations trainee who’s in the Obeah; and
- Power of Snunner, the hard-hitting Pennsylvania-bred who’s also in the Obeah.
Other horses we’re curious to see in those spots:
- Tizsomethingroyal (8-1) in the Obeah. The Linda Rice-trained Tizway filly’s speed figs don’t quite measure up to the best of these. But she’s two-for-two over the strip, and Rice doesn’t ship without intending a good outcome; she won six of her 16 starts at Delaware last year. Also notable: jockey Mike Luzzi makes the trip in to ride.
- Lady Fog Horn (5-1) in the Obeah. She didn’t run all that well last out in the G3 Doubledogdare and in fact was well behind Power of Snunner, who finished second. But she’s a Grade 2 winner whose best would be good enough here and brings regular pilot Albin Jimenez along with her from Indiana.
- Super Dude (8-1) in the Stanton. Gee, did we mention Linda Rice wins all the time? This $200,000 First Dude colt has won the first two starts of his career, both on the dirt, and her dam was stakes-placed on the turf. Luzzi has this mount, as well.
- Undulated (12-1) in the Stanton. The Cal Lynch trainee is a stakes winner sprinting on synthetic and is stakes-placed sprinting on the grass – so we’re curious to see him running a second straight route race. He was nowhere last out in the Jimmy Murphy at Pimlico. His breeding — by Curlin — says a route of ground shouldn’t be an issue. Sheldon Russell rides, and we’re curious to see if this horse can start to deliver on his early promise.
