From a Fasig-Tipton release

Fasig-Tipton’s Midlantic division has catalogued 229 entries for the 2017 Midlantic Winter Mixed Sale, an increase of 37 percent over the 2016 catalogue. The sale will be held on Sunday, January 29 at the Maryland State Fair Grounds in Timonium, Maryland, beginning at 11 am.

In 2016, the sale, placed in January rather than its typical December date, saw the buyback rate plummet from about one-third to just over 13 percent.  As a result, the sale, with 27 percent fewer horses than the December 2014 edition, saw its gross drop just eight percent.

“Moving the sale date from December to late January produced very positive results in 2016, and as a result, consignors have supported us with increased numbers for 2017,” said Midlantic Sales Director Paget Bennett.

“The catalogue features significant quality, including a number of young stakes credentialed broodmares and broodmare prospects, as well as several siblings to prominent 2016 graded stakes winners,” continued Bennett. “A large group of ‘short’ yearlings, which includes several eligible for a variety of lucrative state-bred programs, should draw good interest as well.”
