YESTERDAY’S NEWS: Dream Prospect wins third straight

She may not be a dream, exactly. But Dream Prospect is pretty good.

Yesterday, the three-year-old Mineshaft filly won for the third consecutive start, in a $78,000 allowance contest at Parx Racing, and now has three wins and a second from four career starts.  Under jockey Daniel Centeno, Dream Prospect, the 2-1 post-time favorite, pressed the early pace, put a head in front after three-quarters of a mile, repulsed a bid from runner-up Amizzen Grace, and went on to win by 1 1/4 lengths.

Dream Prospect paid $6.00 to win.  The exacta, with the top two wagering choices finishing one-two, returned $26.40.

Running time for the 1 1/16 miles over a fast main track — originally scheduled for the lawn — was 1:49.02.  Dream Prospect is trained by Christophe Clement for owner-breeder Robert S. Evans.

TODAY’S ACTION

  • Tracks in action: Meadowlands, Charles Town, Penn National
  • North Atlantic (7-5)  hasn’t quite lived up to his early promise — he was favored in last year’s Moscarelli Memorial for two-year-olds on West Virginia Breeders Classics night and finished third that evening — but he has posted three wins and six other in-the-money finished from 13 career starts, with purse earnings of $77,720.  The Ghostzapper colt, trained by Jeff Runco, is a solid favorite in tonight’s seventh from Charles Town, a $24,000 allowance test going 1 1/8 miles.  In his most recent start, North Atlantic finished sixth on Breeders Classics night, in the West Virginia Lottery.  Arnaldo Bocachica will ride.
  • A year ago this time, Joe Franklin (5-1) was readying for a date in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.  Today, the four-year-old Bernstein colt will run for a $16,000 tag in an allowance/optional claiming turf sprint (race 5) at The Meadowlands.  In between, he’s lost four times and changed trainers twice; he now runs for trainer Jorge Navarro, who today will leg up jockey Andre Worrie.  Last out, at Monmouth, he led for three-eighths of a mile as the 8-5 favorite before tiring to fifth.
