Saturday marks Commonwealth Day at Laurel Park, featuring three graded races, plus five stakes for Virginia-breds.
On tap: the Grade 2 Commonwealth Derby, Grade 2 Commonwealth Turf Cup, and Grade 3 Commonwealth Oaks. Also in the offing are five stakes restricted to horses bred or sired in Virginia.
Nick Hahn — the longtime Virginia racing analyst who also authors the eponymous Nick’s Picks tipsheet — joins us to talk about the day: his feelings, memories, and observations on Virginia’s biggest day (and how it feels to see it in Maryland). He’ll also throw in some thoughts on handicapping the races.
