From a Laurel Park release

Laurel Park will join several racetracks across the country on Saturday to help raise awareness and funds for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund as part of PDJF Day Across America.

Saturday’s fifth race, a seven-furlong sprint over the main track for maiden fillies and mares 3 and older, has been named the ‘PDJF Jockeys Across America Day’ race.

Following the race, representatives of the Maryland Jockey Club and the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association will each present a check for $1,000 to the PDJF.

Special edition T-shirts will be available on track for a minimum donation of $10. Caps and rubber bracelets will also be available for donation.

The PDJF is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides financial assistance to 60 former jockeys who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries. Since its founding in 2006, the fund has disbursed over $7 million to permanently disabled jockeys, most of whom have sustained paralysis or brain injuries.
