YESTERDAY’S NEWS: LATE BREAKING NEWS ROLLS

 

In six starts prior to yesterday, Late Breaking News had never finished better than fourth.

Seven must be the Stacy Machiz trainee’s lucky number.

Sent off as the 3-2 favorite in a field of six Pennsylvania-bred maidens going one mile, Late Breaking News and jockey Maria Remedio cleared the field into the first turn, led by two lengths after a half-mile in 48.26 seconds, and widened with every stride from there.  The Jump Start gelding was 15 lengths ahead at the wire and stopped the clock in 1:37.73.  He paid $5.00 to win and topped an exacta worth $18.80.

Late Breaking News, out of the Mutakddim mare Very Distinctive, is owned by Stacy Machiz and husband Gary and was bred by his owners.

LOOK AHEAD: TODAY’S RACING

• Tracks in action today: Delaware Park, Penn National, Charles Town.
• Sea View Millie (7-2), with a first and a second in two career starts, returns to action today in a six-furlong, $36,000 allowance test at Delaware Park (race six).  The Larry Jones trainee ran second on debut to promising runner Casual Cocktail and then returned to break her maiden in her second try with a 2 3/4 length victory.  Gabriel Saez will ride.  Graham Motion trainee Ultra Brat (9-5) is the morning line favorite off a second place finish against similar; both the winner and the show horse from that race won their next start.  Trevor McCarthy will ride.
• Stakes winner R C’s Daisyduke (5-2) returns to action tonight at Charles Town in race seven, a $24,000 allowance going 4 1/2 furlongs.  The Yes It’s True filly won the It’s Binn Too Long at Charles Town back in April to kick off her ’16 campaign but has failed as the favorite in three subsequent tries.  Gerald Almodovar will ride, jumping ship from third favorite Sweetest Memory (7-2), who enters off a neck victory against state-bred allowance runners.
