YESTERDAY’S NEWS: GREENWAY COURT UPSET IN RETURN
Bettors made speedy, seven-year-old Greenway Court the 1-2 favorite in last night’s seventh at Charles Town, a $27,000 allowance test for West Virginia-breds going 4 1/2 furlongs.
But, though the James Casey trainee was game, he was no match for Chasin Rush, ridden by Gerald Almodavar.
Chasin Rush, a Medallist gelding trained by Harvey Blue, Jr. for Robert Cole, Jr., popped the latches on top, led the field through a quarter mile in 21.85 seconds with a 1 1/2 length lead, and went on to 2 3/4 length win in 51.53 seconds. It was Chasin Rush’s eighth win in 22 career starts and his third in four this year.
With Antonio Lopez in the irons, Greenway Court, a Windsor Castle gelding, gave willing chase but was never really in position to loom a major threat. He held second over the late-arriving King of Anything by just a nose.
Greenway Court, the two-time winner of the West Virginia Dash for Cash Breeders’ Classic Stakes, has 15 wins from 28 starts and earnings just shy of $388,000.

- Tracks in action today: Monmouth Park, Penn National, and Charles Town.
- Stakes-winner Royal Renege (5-2) hasn’t won since taking the Lyphard for PA-breds a year ago at Penn National. The Elizabeth Merryman trainee returns to that track this evening as the favorite in a five furlong sprint on the lawn with Jevian Toledo in the irons. Her top rival looks to be Leroys Jewel (3-1), a runner who’s never been out of the money sprinting on the lawn and enters off a second place finish at Pimlico. Other contenders here include Shipwreck Cove (4-1), whose last turf try, last August, resulted in a six length win against similar, and 16-time winner Tribal Custom (9-2), who’s six-for-six on the grass.
- Flint Stites trainee Singmealovesong (5-1) led a long way in her debut before giving up the lead in the final furlong to finish fourth at Penn National last month. This evening, at Charles Town, she tackles a full field in a $23,000 maiden special weight test — and an extra half-furlong in the 6 1/2 furlong test. Ollie Figgins trainee Prospector’s Moon (5-2), is favored. Despite a record of 0-for-6, she has kept much better company than her rivals, including starts at Belmont and Saratoga last year. Jeff Runco’s Aritzia (8-1), second as the favorite on debut, also rates a look in her second career start.
