Laurel Park has canceled live racing for July 3 in the face of a damaging water main break in the Laurel, MD area, track general manager Sal Sinatra said via text message.

The track will also be closed for simulcasting.

According to wtop.com, approximately 30,000 customers in Laurel, Russett, and Maryland City are without water because of the break, which occurred at about 1:00 a.m.  The section of pipe which broke is about 40 feet long and is affecting residents and businesses”from Md. 198 at the Prince George’s County Line to Md. 32.”  Laurel Park’s main entrance is located along 198.

The Fire Department in Anne Arundel County, home to the impacted communities, said that even in parts of the communities with water, water pressure may be too low for firefighting, should the need arise.  Restoration of service could take until 7:00 p.m., the county Public Works Department said.
