Who’re we watching? Let’s see what’s on tap in the mid-Atlantic (and elsewhere) this weekend:

[su_list icon=”icon: clock-o”]

  • 1:48 p.m. The Pick 6 at Parx Racing kicks off with the third race.  There’s a $24,689 carryover going into the weekend.
  • 2:34 p.m. GQ’s best bet of the day is #4 Bo Badger in the fourth from Pimlico (and he’s 9-2 on the morning line!).
  • 3:02 p.m. The Pimlico Pick 5 kicks off, and Maryland Jockey Club analyst Gabby Gaudet shared a playable ticket with us, plus her video analysis of a key race in the sequence.
  • 3:30 p.m. Gary Quill loves him some #3 Miner’s Quest in Pimlico’s sixth race and makes him his longshot play of the day!  “Draw a line through last,” GQ advises.
  • 3:40 p.m. Two Pennsylvania-breds — Henny Jenny and On the Backstreets — are among the 12 fillies and mares set to go postward in the $100,000 Giant’s Causeway on the Keeneland turf.  The odds (30-1 for the former, 12-1 for the latter) say it’s a heavy lift for each, though On the Backstreets does have some back class (couple of stakes wins over the downhill turf at Santa Anita) to call on.
  • 4:46 p.m. Another PA-bred, Emotional Kitten, tackles the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland, a turf route.  The Grade 2 winner, trained by Wesley Ward and ridden by Julien Leparoux, finished fourth in this event a year ago.
  • 5:18 p.m. Getting close to last call for horses hoping to line up on the first Saturday in May, and just seven are here in the Grade 3 Lexington at Keeneland.  Graham Motion trainee Donworth (5-1) was an ultra-impressive first-out winner in his only start to date and rates a look here.
  • 6:54 p.m. How can you not like a horse named Nose Job?  He’s 6-1 in the third race at Penn National, a first-level allowance.
  • 7:05 p.m. The early double at Charles Town includes two maiden special weight events, each with eight entrants.  Every other race on the card is a nickel claimer.
  • 7:18 p.m. They’re off in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby.  One of the longest shots on the board — but one who’s been getting some love from the prognosticators — is Maryland-bred Bridget’s Big Luvy, a son of Tiz Wonderful.  The winner of Laurel Park’s Private Terms Stakes will have Angel Cruz in the irons.
