“He’s just a cool horse,” trainer (and attorney) Ted Maher said a couple of years ago of Lonely Whistle.

The seven year-old son of Say Florida Sandy, out of the Golden Gear mare Lyric Poem, has placed in two stakes and earned nearly $150,000 in his 39-race career.  Maher bought him as a baby and had him from the beginning of his career — he debuted in November 2008 — until May of 2012, when another local trainer, J.B. Secor, claimed him.

After a private transaction, Lonely Whistle has returned to Maher’s barn.  Here, in our Midweek Movie, he makes his first start after being reunited with Maher, and this vid provides a nice look at a few minutes of trainer with horse — and an insight into trainers’ relationships with their equine charges.

The race doesn’t result in a win, but it’s hard not to think that, in this case, anyway, that’s not so bad.
